What is an independent and a dependent sentence?

A sentence that has a subject and a verb and has a complete thought...
It tells us about who did what and how.

An independent sentence

A dependent sentence is a sentence that has a subject and a verb, yet it does not have a complete thought
Here, it does not tell us about who did it or for what. Maybe even how!

When the writer tries to join two independent sentences or more that by just commas which is not enough.
