What is analytical exposition text?

Exposition text is a text that elaborates the writer’s idea about the phenomenon surrounding.

Exposition text adalah teks yang menguraikan pemikiran penulis tentang peristiwa disekitarnya.

What is the purpose of this text?

To persuade the readers to look at an issue with the writer's perspective.

Tujuannya untuk meyakinkan pembaca agar melihat suatu masalah dari sudut pandang penulis.

The Generic Structure of Analytical Exposition

• Thesis, the starting point of an exposition essay. Here you state the topic and establish the point of view. (Menyatakan topik pembahasan dan menetapkan sudut pandang penulis).

• Arguments to support the thesis. Each paragraph starts with a new arguments and has a main point with its elaboration. (Argumen yang mendukung thesis dengan penjelasannya).

• Reiteration or conclusion which reiterates or restates the topic or the thesis. (Kesimpulan dari keseluruhan teks).

Language features of Analytical Exposition

• Focus on generic human and non-human participants, e.g.: car, polution, internet, etc.

• Use of simple present tense

• Use of Relational Processes (Linking Verbs)

• Use of Connectives (words that links arguments), e.g.: Firstly, secondly, then, etc.

• Use of causal conjunction, e.g.: Although, however, in addition, Because, since, therefore, In conclusion, To conclude, etc.
