So, what kind of intelligence do you have?

So, we got to learn about two specific intelligences:

Intrapersonal intelligence includes the awareness of one's own desires, fears, and abilities, as well as using this information to make sound life decisions.

Interpersonal intelligence is expressed in our human relationships, where we cooperate with each other or agree or disagree with each other.

Emotional Intelligence

Simple Definition

Ability to manage emotions in one’s self and in others in order to reach desired outcomes.

8

  • Aristotle

"Anyone can become angry … that is easy.…But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way—that is not easy.

9

If a person is 'intellectually' intelligent, it does not necessarily follow they are emotionally intelligent.

Having a good memory, or good problem-solving abilities, does not mean a person is capable of dealing with emotions or of motivating themselves.

10

EI is the ability to understand your own emotions and those of people around you.

The concept of EI means you have self-awareness that enables you to recognise feelings and helps you manage your emotions.

A person with a high EI is also capable of understanding the feelings of others and, therefore, is better at handling relationships of all kinds.

11

Emotional IQ has 5 components

  • Self awareness

  • Managing emotions

  • Motivating ourselves

  • Empathy

  • Resolving conflicts/handling relationships

3

4

13

Job Success, not Survival through EI

  • Today's great growth and prosperity is running parallel to some of the highest rates of job turnovers.

  • Just because you work hard does not mean you will rise to the top or that the job is secure.

14

Common employer complaints

  • Lack of social skills, motivation to keep learning, and inability to take criticism

  • Leads to plateaued or derailed careers because of crucial gaps in EQ (EI)

15
