Contractions and Telling Time

Contractions in Spanish

​There are only 2 contractions in Spanish and they are very simple and easy to understand. We use them when we are combining 2 specific words. In this example instead of saying "de el" we say "del". Del can mean "from the" or "of the".

"​Al" is the combination of A and el. Al can mean "to the" and "at the".

​Telling Time

​To tell time in Spanish is easy. You will however need to know numbers well. Make sure you know the numbers 1-60 and you are comfortable with them.

​¿Qué hora es? – What time is it?

• de la mañana - in the morning

• de la tarde - in the afternoon

• de la noche – in the night.

• mediodia - midday

• madrugada - early morning

• medianoche - midnight

• amanecer - dawn/sunrise

• A las seis - at six

• a la una - at one

• a las tres - at three
