​Gravitational energy is the energy stored in an object due to its height above the Earth (e.g. if it's further away or closer to the ground). It is a form of potential energy. An object's height above the ground gives it gravitational energy.

​Elastic energy is energy stored in an object due to a force that temporarily changes its shape, such as squashing or stretching.

​Potential energy is energy that is stored in an object or substance. Elastic energy is a form of potential energy – in fact, it's often called 'elastic potential energy'.

Thermal energy refers to the energy contained within a system that is responsible for its temperature.
