What do you think the Law of Conservation of Energy is?
3
Energy is often defined as the ability to do
work.
It is broadly classified into two types.
Potential energy is stored energy.
*Kinetic energy is energy that is being released.
Energy
also comes in different forms. These forms include
light, heat, chemical, mechanical, and nuclear energy.

One characteristic of energy is that it can
transfer from one object or place to another. This can happen in several ways.
One way that energy can transfer is by
direct contact. Suppose you hit a baseball with a bat.
Mechanical energy) transfers from your muscles to the bat. It then transfers to the ball. It sends the ball in a new direction.
Mechanical energy- energy that an object has because of its motion or its position
6
Maybe you place a pan of water on a stove.
The rapidly moving molecules from the hot stove transfers the energy to the pan. It then transfers to the water.
The water molecules will move faster and faster. It makes the water hot.
Thermal energy-
Heat is the flow of energy from a hot object to a cooler one. When you feel that heat
7
Energy can also transfer through space by
radiation. Light, a form of radiant energy, travels through space from a television or
computer screen to your eyes. Radiant energy from
the sun transfers to Earth. It travels almost
150,000,000 kilometers through space.
Radiation energy-energy that does not need matter to travel; light
8
The sun’s radiant energy also strikes plants. Then it is transformed by photosynthesis into chemical energy. This energy is then consumed and transferred to the different living creatures on Earth.
Chemical Energy- the energy that is stored in the bonds between atoms
