Animal Glue

Resistance to water:-

poor.

Liability to Stain:-

None.

Shelf life:- indefinite.
Setting time:- 12

Hours.

uses:- wood work,

repairs to woodwork &
veneers.

Specific types include hide

glue, bone glue, fish glue,
rabbit skin glue. Animal
glue is still extensively
used in lutherie, pipe
organ building, and
antique restoration.

Hide glue is used in

woodworking

Hoof glue is also used

today in woodworking,
specifically cabinetry

'Rabbit-skin glue is used in

the sizing or priming of oil
painters' canvases.

Good.

Setting Time:- 4-8

Hours depending on
temperature.

Uses:- general

woodworking where
staining is not a
disadvantage.

CASEIN GLUE


Strong, water-resistant casein
glue, which produces joints as
strong as or stronger
than most of the common
species of wood, is made from
skim milk and common
chemicals. Casein glue joints
are water-resistant but not
waterproof. They will
withstand occasional soaking,
but if soaked and dried, they
will fail.

Year if free from frost.

Setting Time:- 4-8

Hours.

Uses:- General

woodworking &
repairs, some plastics.

As an adhesive, It will

bond wood, paper,
leather, expanded
polystyrene, mortar,
brick and most other
porous materials to
themselves and to
each other. It makes a
reasonable border and
edge adhesive for
wallpaper.

Contact Adhesive (Activity)

Good.

None but is coloured.

Shelf Life:- About 1

Year.

Setting Time:-

Immediate.

Uses:- fixing sheet

plastics, repairing.

Definition: A liquid

adhesive which dries to a
film that is tack-free to
other materials but not to
itself. The adhesive is
applied to both surfaces to
be joined and dried at least
partially. When pressed
together at light to
moderate pressure, a bond
of high initial strength
results.
