หลักการใช้ Verb to be

1. Verb to be ท าหน้าที่เป็นกริยาหลัก (Main Verbs)
Verb to be ที่ท าเป็นกริยาหลักจะท าหน้าที่เชื่อมค าหรือกลุ่มค าที่เป็นประธาน
ที่อยู่หน้าข้างหน้าเข้ากับค าหรือกลุ่มค าที่อยู่ด้านหลัง โดยให้ความหมายว่า เป็น,
อยู่, คือ เช่น
I am Sarah. (ฉันคือซาร่า)
My mom is a teacher. (แม่ของฉันเป็นครู)
She is very beautiful. (เธอสวยมาก ๆ)
We were in the office last night. (พวกเราอยู่ที่ออฟฟิศเมื่อคืนนี้)

Verb to be ที่ท าเป็นกริยาหลักจะท าหน้าที่เชื่อมค าหรือกลุ่มค าที่เป็นประธาน
ที่อยู่หน้าข้างหน้าเข้ากับค าหรือกลุ่มค าที่อยู่ด้านหลัง โดยให้ความหมายว่า เป็น,
อยู่, คือ เช่น
I am Sarah. (ฉันคือซาร่า)
My mom is a teacher. (แม่ของฉันเป็นครู)
She is very beautiful. (เธอสวยมาก ๆ)
We were in the office last night. (พวกเราอยู่ที่ออฟฟิศเมื่อคืนนี้)

2. Verb to be ท ำหน้ำที่เป็นกริยำช่วย (Auxiliary Verbs)
Verb to be ท ำหน้ำที่เป็นกริยำช่วยเพื่อช่วยให้ประโยคสมบูรณ์ขึ้น ในกรณีต่ำง ๆ ดังนี้

2.1. ใช้เป็นกริยำช่วยในประโยค Continuous tense เพื่อแสดงว่ำ “ก ำลังท ำ...”

เช่น

Nid is eating a sandwich. (นิดก ำลังกินแซนด์วิช)
eating เป็นกริยำหลัก, is เป็นกริยำช่วย

Jack and I are watching a movie. (ฉันกับแจ็คก ำลังดูหนัง)
watching เป็นกริยำหลัก, are เป็นกริยำช่วย

2.2. ใช้ในโครงสร้ำงประโยค Passive Voice (ประโยคถูกกระท ำ) โครงสร้ำง S + Verb to
be + V.3 เช่น

A house is built by father. (บ้ำนถูกสร้ำงโดยพ่อ)
I was given the letter by him. (ฉันถูกให้จดหมำยโดยเขำ)

เมื่อท ำเป็นประโยคปฏิเสธก็ใส่ not หลัง Verb to be ได้เลย เช่น

My phone wasn’t fixed yesterday. (โทรศัพท์ของฉันไม่ได้ถูกซ่อมเมื่อวำนนี้)

2.2. ใช้ในโครงสร้ำงประโยค Passive Voice (ประโยคถูกกระท ำ) โครงสร้ำง S + Verb to
be + V.3 เช่น

A house is built by father. (บ้ำนถูกสร้ำงโดยพ่อ)
I was given the letter by him. (ฉันถูกให้จดหมำยโดยเขำ)

เมื่อท ำเป็นประโยคปฏิเสธก็ใส่ not หลัง Verb to be ได้เลย เช่น

2.3. ใช้ Verb to be วำงหน้ำค ำกริยำ infinitive with to จะ
ให้ควำมหมำยว่ำ “จะ, จะต้อง” เช่น

You’re to get better marks next time. (ในครั้ง

หน้ำคุณจะต้องได้คะแนนที่ดีกว่ำ)

I’m to work in Tokyo next year. (ฉันจะไปท ำงำนที่

โตเกียวปีหน้ำ)

กำรท ำ Verb to be เป็นประโยคค ำถำม

กำรท ำ Verb to be เป็นประโยคค ำถำม ซึ่งเป็นประโยคค ำถำมแบบ Yes-No
Question ท ำได้โดยน ำ Verb to be มำไว้หน้ำประโยค เช่น

Q: Is this your coat? (นี่คือเสื้อโค้ตของคุณใช่ไหม?)
A: Yes, it is? หรือ No, it isn’t.

Q: Were they in the room last night? (เมื่อคืนพวกเขำอยู่ในห้องใช่ไหม?)
A: Yes, They were. หรือ No, they weren’t

กำรท ำ Verb to be เป็นรูปปฏิเสธ

กำรท ำ Verb to be เป็นรูปปฏิเสธ ท ำได้โดย เติม not หลัง is, am, are, was
were ดังนี้ am not / is not = isn’t / are not = aren’t / was not =
wasn’t / were not = weren’t เช่น

I am not a student. (ฉันไม่ใช่นักเรียน)
They weren’t in the room last night. (พวกเขำไม่ได้อยู่ในห้องเมื่อคืนนี้)
