Introduction

Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that deals with the interconversion of heat and other forms of energy.

ऊष्मागतिकी भौतिक विज्ञान की वह शाखा है जो ऊष्मा तथा यांत्रिक ऊर्जा के परस्पर रूपांतरण का वर्णन करती है।

Conversion of Heat into Mechanical Energy:

  1. Steam Engine

  2. Internal Combustion Engine (like in cars)

  3. Geothermal Power Plant

Conversion of Mechanical Energy into Heat:

  1. Rubbing your hands together (friction generates heat)

  2. Brakes on a bicycle or car (friction between brake pads and wheels)

  3. Lighting a match (friction between matchstick and striking surface)

  4. Cutting something with a saw (friction between the saw teeth and the material being cut)

​Heat can be used to do work and similarly work done can be converted into heat. Heat can be converted into mechanical energy and vice versa.

Hence, we may state that Heat is also a form of energy.

Heat can also be used for changing the state of any substance.

Laws of Thermodynamics

The laws of thermodynamics are fundamental principles that govern the behavior of energy and matter in the universe. These laws help us understand why things happen the way they do. They're like rules that everything in the universe follows, and they help scientists and engineers figure out how to use energy wisely and understand how things work in our everyday lives.
There are four laws of thermodynamics.
