Assessment 2 Feedback -
Excellent submission rate
Difficult assessment incorporating lots of factors - clear effort put in!
Main areas to work on relate to training variables - specific intensities/exercise selection
Rationales were written extremely well
First time tackling gym-based sessions - well done!

RECAP -
S&C Training Needs Analysis –
gathering the necessary information to determine needs and requirements to design a specific resistance-training programme for sports performance.
9
Open Ended
Why might it be important to conduct a 'needs analysis' prior to prescribing an S&C programme?
10
RECAP- MOVEMENT
PATTERNS
Analysing the movements of athletes helps to illustrate the varying demands placed on the body during performance
If we identify specific biomechanical
movement patterns we are able to design a more accurate and effective training programme.
11
BOXING - EXAMPLE
Punching movements in arms –
• Elbow extension and shoulder flexion (e.g.,
jab/straight right)
• Horizontal flexion of shoulder and flexion
of elbow (e.g., hook)
• Shoulder and elbow flexion (e.g.,
uppercut).
Movements in legs –
• Triple extension in ankle, knees and hips
when punching, bobbing & weaving and footwork
Movements in trunk –
• Upper-body rotations when hooking or
crossing, bobbing and weaving

COMPONENTS OF
FITNESS
Performance demands are different for each sport.
It is vital that you know the physical demands/requirements of the sport you will be working with.
Working on the wrong component could waste time throughout a season - knowing strengths/weaknesses is key.
13
COMPONENTS OF
FITNESS
Individual Task
Research the components of fitness that are most important for participation in your selected sport.
Use academic literature to justify your choice of components (this will be used within your assessment).
14
Word Cloud
What fitness component(s) are crucial for successful performance in your sport?
15
STRENGTH
TRAINING STATUS
Essential to consider your strength training status:
• Beginner
• Intermediate
• Advanced
Q. How would this affect training sessions/programme planning?
16
INJURIES
Group Task
In groups of 3-4, select 2 different sports and research the following:
Common injuries associated with the sports (Identify the types of injuries, their causes, and the affected body areas.).
Gather data to examine the injury rate/prevalence within the sports.
This will be included within your assessment (note down references to use).
17
Open Ended
Note your key findings below (include chosen sports within your answers)
Areas to research:
Common injuries (Identify the types of injuries, their causes, and the affected body areas.).
Any data to examine the injury rate/injury prevalence
18
Assessment 3
Individual Task
Use the remainder of this session to update your presentation with the research conducted today:
Fitness Components
Common Injuries
19
Next Session..
Prior to our next session, you should research the following in relation to your chosen athlete/sport:
Energy system requirements
Relevant fitness tests
Role demands
(link to fitness components/muscle groups and movement patterns)
