• Alex Scott died on August 1, 2004. She was eight years
old. Her life was short, but it was an important one. Alex
made a difference.
• Alex had cancer. She was a very sick child, but a very
brave child. She spent a lot of time in the hospital, but
she was never sad. She always helped other people,
even in the hospital.
• At the age of four, Alex was in the hospital with many
other children with cancer. Alex thought, “What can I do
for these children?" Cancer research needs a lot of
money, but Alex didn't have any money. She was only
four years old!

• Alex sold lemonade and made money. She and her
brother made a little shop in front of their house. The
neighbors thought, “Alex is only a little girl. One little
shop can't make a difference."
• At first, Alex and her brother sold only a little, but soon a
lot of people bought lemonade. Alex made $2,000! She
gave the money to the hospital.
• Alex's little shop was on TV. A lot of money arrived.
After the first year, other children made lemonade shops
in their gardens. Soon, children had lemonade shops all
over the world.
• In her short life, Alex made over $1,000,000 for cancer
research. Other children are selling lemonade and
making money for cancer research even today. Alex
made a big difference, and you can, too!
