CONTINENT

A large landmass completely
surrounded by water

EQUATOR

Imaginary line dividing the earth
into northern and southern
hemispheres

EURASIA
Large landmass that contains the continents Europe and Asia

HEMISPHERE
Half of the Earth, divided by
either the Equator or the Prime Meridian

LATITUDE

Lines that run parallel to the Equator and measure how far North or South a location is from the Equator

LONGITUDE

Lines that measure how far East or West a location is from the Prime Meridian

NORTH POLE
The point in the Northern
Hemisphere where the Earth's
axis of rotation meets its surface

PRIME MERIDIAN
The Prime Meridian is the planet’s
line of zero degrees longitude,
dividing the Earth into the Eastern
and Western hemispheres

SOUTH POLE

The point in the Southern
Hemisphere where the Earth’s axis
of rotation meets its surface
