​Look at these sentences from Nicholas’ conversation when he and his friends go shopping for furnishings and appliances for their apartment: 
Le vendeur nous vend un tapis.
Je te paie le loyer.

In these examples, nousand teare indirect object pronouns. An indirect object pronoun is used in place of the indirect object, the person to whom, or for whom, the action is being done. You've seen how we use indirect object pronouns with verbs like plaire,as in this example, in which the indirect object pronoun is me:
Cette maison me plait beaucoup.

Now look at this sentence with the verb payer: 
Je paie le loyer à toi.

We can rewrite the same sentence with a different construction, replacing toi by the indirect object pronoun te:
Je te paie le loyer.
