What is cellular respiration?
a.This process takes place within the mitochondria of cells.
b. This is the process of taking the energy stored in glucose and making ATP.
c.This process happens in both autotrophs and heterotrophs.
d.This ATP is what organisms use to power reactions.
Three reactions of cellular respiration:
1.Glycolysis
2.Krebs cycle (Citric Acid Cycle)
3.Electron Transport Chain

Why do the reactions of photosynthesis and cellular respiration rely on one another?
5
Krebs cycle (citric acid cycle)
●Oxygen is required for this step
●Major event - This process produces high-energy electron carrier molecules and succinate
○NADH and FADH2
○These are important in the next step
●This happens in the matrix of the mitochondria.
●Two ATP molecules are made in this step.

2 ATP

Electron Transport Chain
●In this process, the energy from NADH and FADH2 is used to pump protons out of the intermembrane
space against the concentration gradient.
●These protons are then pumped back into the intracellular space with the concentration gradient
through a protein pump called ATP synthase.
●During this process, ADP is recharged into ATP.
ATP synthase (enzyme) constructs ATP
●32 ATP are made in this step.
●A total of 36 ATP are made from 1 glucose molecule.
