Read and catch ideas
The European cuckoo is the worst mother because she
doesn’t look after her chicks! When she lays an egg, she
puts it into another bird’s nest then when the baby bird
hatches, the other mother bird does all the work, feeding
and looking after this intruder. How cheeky is that?
Superlative. Connector: reason
5
When the mother hornbill bird lays her eggs in a
hole in a tree, the father hornbill helps her by
covering up the hole and leaves just a little space.
This space is just big enough for the mother to put
her beak through and feed her little babies.
6
One of the best mums in the world is the ape. She may
look quite scary but she is very gentle and loving with her
babies. She will feed and care for them until they are 3
years old and she also helps and protects them for even
longer if they need it.
7
It must be very difficult to look after a baby in a very
cold and icy place. When the harp seal gives birth to a
baby pup (puppy), she will feed it continuously for 12 days
without eating. This means that the pup will gain weight
about 2.3 kgs every day but mum will lose weight around
3.18kgs each day.
