Writing Complete Sentences
A complete sentence must have a subject and a predicate, and must express a complete thought. A complete sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with final punctuation.

Writing Complete Sentences
When writing sentences, avoid fragments, run-on sentences, and comma splices.
A comma splice occurs when two complete sentences are joined by a comma.

Sentence Error Examples
Fragment: Played baseball (missing subject)
Run-On Sentence: Zoe walked to the park Zak ran there.
Comma splice: He threw the ball, she caught the ball.

How to End a Sentence
Periods: used when a sentence does not ask a question or express strong feelings.
Semicolons: used in place of a period to join two related sentences together.
Question Marks: used when a sentence asks a question.
Exclamation Points: used when a sentence expresses strong feelings.

Capitalize the first letters of names.
Capitalize the first letter in a sentence regardless of whether it's a name or not.
