media

2

What was India’s place in the British Empire?

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Great Britain had the largest empire in the world. It was said that the British Empire was so expansive that “sun never set” on it.  Since England had so many colonies, no matter what time it was, part of the empire was lit with daylight. India was referred to as the “Jewel of the Crown” because it was the most populous and prosperous British colony.
