Brake boosters help the driver apply brake pressure to the master cylinder.

They use an outside power source to help increase the drivers input on the brake pedal.

VACUMM BRAKE BOOSTERS

Vacuum brake boosters use engine vacuum to apply a BOOST to the drivers effort when braking. A normal running engine produces a negative pressure (vacuum) approximatlly 20 inches of vacuum.

SYMPTOMS OF A FAULTY VACUUM BOOSTER

A faulty vacuum booster would cause a stiff brake pedal and a decrease in brake efficiancy.
