How to calculate average atomic mass
9
To calculate Average Atomic Mass:
1. Multiply the Atomic Masses of the isotopes by their Natural abundance percentage and add them all together.
2. the percentage used must first be divided by 100 before being used in the calculation
General Rule
10
11
Note:
Dont Forget to divide the percentages by 100 before using them in the calculations.
12
Example 1
Average Atomic Mass = M1 x P1/100 + M2xP2/100
13
14
Example 2
Average Atomic Mass = M1 x P1/100 + M2xP2/100 + M3xP5/100
