The SAMR Model

The SAMR Model is a framework created to help educators implement technology into their classroom. It is categorized into four tiers: Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition.

3

Original Lesson Plan

This lesson plan is focused on the seasons and what causes them to change! Students will engage in a poll, fill out skeleton notes, participate in a hands-on activity, and fill out a diagram.

4

SAMR: Substitution

Original: the students are meant to take a poll, choosing which answer best explains the changing of the seasons, by placing a sticky note under their choice

SAMR: the students will take an online poll using the website, Poll Everywhere. This will allow students to clearly see the diversity of thought amongst their classmates.

5

SAMR: Augmentation

Original: asks the students to fill in skeleton notes, which requires the student to fill in a passage's missing words on paper

SAMR: the students fill in the skeleton notes on Google Docs alongside a word-processing application, such as Grammarly, that offers help with spelling and immediate feedback

6

SAMR: Modification

Original: contains a hands-on activity that helps students to visually see how the seasons change

SAMR: students will be using Google Earth to see how the earth rotates around the sun. This will allow students to gain a more accurate visual of the process of changing the seasons.

7

SAMR: Redefinition

Original: students fill out a seasonal science diagram, labelling the name of the season and the dates at which they occur

SAMR: students will create a documentary video throughout the year to actually observe seasonal change. This will give the students a better, more in-depth understanding of the topic.
