Poll

A cell is the ________ unit of life

Smallest

Largest

6

Recap :

  • Every living thing is made of cells

  • Cells are the SMALLEST unit of life

  • Humans have around 50 trillion cells

  • Most cells are so tiny they can only be seen under a microscope

  • Plants and animals have different types of cells

  • Cells come in all shapes and forms and have specific jobs

  • To be alive it must: grow, reproduce, move, eat and make waste

7

Poll

True or False: Every single cell is exactly the same

True

False

8

Animal Cells

  • Animal cells are kind of like humans beacsue they have their own "organs" that help them function!

  • Humans have many different organs, and each one does something different.

  • The cell's organs are much smaller. They are called organelles

10

Animal Cell Organelles

The organelles we need to know:

  • Nucleus

  • Cell Membrane

  • Cytoplasm

media

11

Nucleus

It is the MOST important part of the cell. It's just like our brain! It controls everything the cell does. Just like how our brains control our bodies

media

12

Cell Membrane

It is on the outer edges of the cell, so it controls what comes in and goes out! It helps to protect the cell from toxic substances

media

13

Cytoplasm

It's kind of like jello because it hold everything together! This jelly-like substance holds all of the organelles in place so they don't move around.
