Kata penguat ialah perkataan yang mendahului atau mengikuti kata adjektif dan berfungsi menguatkan maksud yang terkandung dalam kata adjektif.

Kata penguat terbahagi kepada tiga jenis iaitu :
1. penguat hadapan
2. penguat belakang
3. penguat bebas

terlalu, paling, agak
Kata Penguat belakang :
sekali, benar, nian
Kata Penguat bebas :
amat, sungguh, sangat

Contoh ayat :
Sungai itu agak dalam.
Keputusan peperiksaannya teruk sekali.
Puteri bunian itu indah nian.
Pemain bola keranjang itu terlalu tinggi.
Dia terbeli baju yang sangat besar.
