How can a bottle tell you about the past? Think of 3 different ways it can tell you about the past.

A captain of an old fishing boat found an old bottle in one of his fishing nets. He told reporters about it when he got back to shore, because it had a message inside, however,

the message was kind of disappointing. It wasn't anything important like being stranded on an island or a love letter. Instead, the letter had an address on it. The bottle was actually more important than anyone realized, because it was part of an experiment from 98 years ago. Scientists threw one thousand one hundred bottles into the ocean,

bottles into the ocean, so they could track the currents around the world. It took almost one hundred years for someone to find this bottle, making it the oldest message found in

a bottle. That's a world record. But the idea of putting messages in bottles goes back hundreds of years. Over two thousand years ago, the Ancient Greeks put bottles in the water to see if the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean were connected. And sailors in World War One sent messages home using bottles.
