Brief History of the Air force

After Wrights Brothers' first flight, the nation's military aviation service followed a constantly growing lineage on 1907 to 1947. Officials discussed the establishment of an academy that for decades would teach the people for decades. And when the Air force was officially established the plans for the academy where officially underway.

The current Secretary of the Air force as looking for a permanent site for the academy, they traveled 21,000 miles and considered 580 proposed sites in 45 different states. In the end there were 3 states and area's selected for the academy and they were: Alton, Illinois, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; and Colorado Springs, Colorado.


The first class of 306 men were sworn in at a temporary site at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. Lt. Gen. Hubert R. Harmon, a key figure in the development of the academy was brought out of retirement to become the first superintendent.

Brief history of the countless experiences the recruits and members have gone through.

New cades have had to go through new worldwide events for the longest time from the Vietnam war where it was the first-time cadets where fighting in the war actively to the attacks of September 9th, 2011, where they had to deal with all the airports and making sure more planes weren't approaching.

But the academy has taught the new cades too adapt to certain situations and take action when needed, like when Capt. Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III landed a flight full of 155 people after a bird strike happened and the plane lost power to both engines which he received an award from the academy for.

Application Process

You can go to a recruiter and talk to them about your goals and then they can get you set up with what you are interested in, you can also fill out an application that would be checked over and judged to see if you are ready to join. They would then contact you and then send you a location to go to where you will go to the academy/bootcamp.

You must be above the age of 17 and have not reached your 42nd Birthday yet.
You also need your high school diploma or a GED.

Average ACT/SAT and GPA.

Half of the applicants admitted to United States Air Force Academy have SAT scored that surpass between 1310 and 1480 or an ACT score of 28 and 33. However, one quarter scored below these ranges. The average GPA that the Air Force Academy looks for is around 3.8 or above.

Cost
The academy education is valued at more than $416,000 but for new cadets it is absolutely free with no cost and all they ask for return is that you serve the country properly.

Extra Duties that you can do

There are about 100+ Clubs and activities that new cadets can get into, you can also practice shooting and even have the opportunity to get into chemistry if you want too. Cadets can also take summer classes and participate in enrichment programs abroad.

What happens after graduation

You will accept an appointment and serve as a commissioned officer in either the US Air force or the US Space Force, and you will do this for around eight years after you graduate. Five of which you must be active duty and the rest can serve as inactive reserve.
