AFDA.8  The student will design and conduct an experiment/survey. Key concepts include

a)        sample size;

b)       sampling technique;

c)        controlling sources of bias and experimental error;

d)       data collection; and

e)        data analysis and reporting.

Sampling Techniques

1. Simple Random Sampling: Every member of the population has an equal chance of being selected.

2. Stratified Sampling: The population is divided into subgroups (or strata) based on certain characteristics, and then samples are randomly selected from each subgroup.

3. Systematic Sampling: Members of the population are selected at regular intervals from a list or sequence.

Biased vs. Unbiased Data

A biased sampling method likely does not represent the population. On the other hand, if the sampling method is unbiased, then it represents the population being studied.
