Use (Mục đích sử dụng)

Ngữ pháp so sánh hơn được dùng để so sánh 2 đối tượng với nhau.
Example: Lucy is taller than Sam.
That table is darker than this table.
Ngữ pháp so sánh nhất được dùng để so sánh 1 đối tượng với các đối tượng còn lại có chung đặc điểm => để nêu bật tính khác biệt hoặc sự nổi trội của đối tượng đó
Example: Lucy is the tallest girl in this class.
That table is the darkest in this store.
Suzy is the most beautiful girl that I know.
This is the best movie I've ever seen.

1. Tính từ có 1 âm tiết / Tính từ ngắn (Short adjective): ADJ + ER + THAN
Example:
a. hard -> harder Yoga is harder than running.
b. strong -> stronger My dad is stronger than my brother.
c. hot -> hotter Saigon is hotter than Da Lat.
d. thin -> thinner I am thinner than my mom.

phụ - nguyên - phụ => h-o-t , b-i-g , th-i-n
=> gấp đôi phụ âm cuối khi thêm -er

2. Tính từ có 2 âm tiết trở lên / Tính từ dài (Long adjective): MORE/LESS + ADJ + THAN
Example:
a. beautiful -> more beautiful / less beautiful
Anne Hathaway is more beautiful than Cameron Diaz.
This pink dress is less beautiful than that white dress.
b. interesting -> more interesting / less interesting
Going to the cinema is more interesting than having a picnic.
Science subjects are less interesting than art subjects.

d. thin -> thinnest Lisa is the thinnest member of the group.

2. Tính từ có 2 âm tiết trở lên / Tính từ dài (Long adjective): THE + MOST/LEAST + ADJ
Example:
a. beautiful -> the most beautiful / the least beautiful
Anne Hathaway is the most beautiful actress I've ever seen.
This background drop is the least beautiful in this store.
b. interesting -> the most interesting / the least interesting
Cycling in the park is the most interesting thing to do at the weekend.
Going to the museum with my little brother is the least interesting thing I want to do.

Special cases (Ngoại lệ)

good -> better -> the best (tốt)
bad -> worse -> the worst (tệ, xấu)
far -> farther/further -> the farthest/furthest (xa, sâu)
happy -> happier -> the happiest (vui vẻ)
heavy -> heavier -> the heaviest (nặng)
clever -> clever -> the cleverest (thông minh)
quiet -> quieter -> the quietest (yên tĩnh)
simple -> simpler -> the simplest (đơn giản)
narrow -> narrower -> the narrowest (nhỏ hẹp)
