Step 1: prewriting

Prewriting techniques:

Freewriting - sitting down and writing whatever comes into your mind about a topic.

Questioning - write down a series of questions and answers about it.
Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?

Brainstorming or List making - make a list of ideas and details that could go into your essay.

Mapping or Clustering - take the most important word or phrase from you essay and write it in the middle of your paper with a circle
around it. Then, think of the key points related to that subject. Write each of these in circles that surround the central topic and connect
to it by lines.

Revising

Revising is as much as a stage in the writing process as all the others.

Revising means that you rewrite a paper, building upon what has been done, to make it stronger and better.

A typical revision means writing at least one or two more drafts, adding, and omitting details, organizing more clearly, and beginning to correct
spelling, and grammar.

A = add sentences or words to improve your writing
R = remove unneeded or extra words or sentences
M = move words, sentences or paragraphs so your writing makes sense
S = substitute words or punctuation

Editing

Editing means checking a paper carefully for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and other errors.

You are ready for this stage when you know that your point is clear, your supporting details are good, and your paper is well organized.

At this stage you MUST READ YOUR PAPER OUT LOUD to yourself.
