the “doer” or the “receiver” of the action.

SENTENCE 1: Amarion threw the ball.
The verb threw is in the ACTIVE VOICE because the subject
(Amarion)
is the DOER of the action.
SENTENCE 2: The ball was thrown by Amarion.
The verb was thrown is in the PASSIVE VOICE because the subject
(ball) is the receiver of the action.
