Credible sources are written by authors respected in their fields of study. Responsible, credible authors will cite their sources so that you can check the accuracy of and support for what they've written. 

Non-Credible Sources

Unreliable sources don’t always contain true, accurate, and up-to-date information.

That’s why it is extremely important to use credible and reliable sources only.

Credible Sources

The Internet allows you to find any information that you want. However, just because it is online doesn’t mean its true. You must be a skeptic and ask: What is the point of view of this website? What are they trying to get me to believe? What opinions or ideas are missing? You should also investigate the source and ask: Who is publishing the information? Remember, a reliable source, like a university, tends to be more credible. Lastly, follow the rule of three—this means compare three sources of information before coming to a conclusion.

How do I find credible sources?

• Know your domains. Every website has to register a domain that indicates what kind of agency it is. Generally, ".gov" and ".edu" sites will offer objective data based on research.

• The library. Your local librarian is trained to help you find the best resources on your topic.
