The impeachment of Andrew Johnson was because he violated the tenure of office act when he removed Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, who was a radical republican. He tried to replace him with Ulysses S Grant.

African Americans after the Civil War

After the civil war, African Americans became mostly sharecroppers, (farmers) and they were under increased threat of violence, due to racist white people and the ku klux klan. They were often lynched and killed.
