  • Phrase - lacks either noun or verb (or both)

  • Clause - contains a subject and a verb

    • Dependent Clause will start with a subordinate conjunction (sounds unfinished)

    • Independent Clause could be a sentence by itself 

    Example: After Ms. White's English class, I am always in a good mood!

    Example: After I go to Ms. White's English class, I am always in a good mood

Rules to Remember:

​#1. Commas go before FANBOYS & independent clauses

#2. Commas help to separate three, four, and even ten items in a list.

#3. Commas separate non-essential or explanatory info, appositives, in sentences.

#4. Commas separate powerful, useful adjectives.

#5. Finally, commas help to separate interjections, and yes, even interruptions.
