​Rapid Eye Movement

Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep happens around 90 minutes after you fall asleep. The first period of REM is or around 10 minutes but each stage gets longer. Your heart rate and breathing quicken as your brain is more active and this is when you may have intense and vivid dreams.

Babies have around 50% REM sleep for adults it's around 20%.
