What Is Gravity? | NASA Space Place – NASA Science for Kids

You can open this webpage in a new tab.

3

Multiple Select

Which of these is true of gravity ? Check all that apply.

1

Objects are attracted to center.

2

Exists between all objects

3

Invisible fundamental force.

4

Objects with more mass have more gravity

4

media

Gravity pulls all objects at
9.81 m/s^2.
Objects experience different friction and air resistance; objects therefore can move slower due to added stopping forces as the object is falling.

Air resistance tricks our eyes !

Multiple Choice

How is NASA's space power facility near Cleveland, Ohio, described in the video ?

1

Smallest solar generator in the world.

2

Largest wind tunnel in the world.

3
Wind power plant providing electricity to Glenn Research Center
4

Largest vacuum chamber in the world

7

Multiple Choice

What is the main reason for dropping the feathers and bowling ball in the chamber?

1
To demonstrate the effect of air resistance on objects with different masses and surface areas.
2

To illustrate the effects of gravity.

3
To test the strength of the chamber
4
To measure the temperature inside the chamber

8

Multiple Choice

What does Isaac Newton believe is pulling objects like the feathers and bowling ball down?

1
Gravity
2
Wind resistance
3
Friction
4
Magnetism

10

Multiple Choice

Who experimentally demonstrated that gravity caused all objects to fall to Earth at the same rate?

1
Albert Einstein
2
Nikola Tesla
3
Galileo Galilei
4
Isaac Newton

11

Multiple Choice

Which theory explains gravity as a warping or bending of space in the presence of an object?

1
General Theory of Relativity
2

Newton's 2nd Law

3
Quantum Mechanics
4
String Theory

12

Multiple Choice

What are scientists currently working on to further understand the theory of gravity?

1

Finding gravity waves

2

Discovering gravitons

3

Modifying Newton's theories

4

All of these

13

Gravity Visualized

Objects of different masses bend space in different ways. The undulations in the fabric of space also influences time.

This teacher is teaching other instructors on how to do this demonstration, but it is still the best visual for this subject. You do not have to watch all 9 minutes, but do watch enough to see how space is bent due to differing masses.
