​What is: Social and Emotional Learning
(SEL)?

Fact:

• Literacy as it relates to math, science, reading, etc. is important!

Fact:

• Emotional literacy is ALSO important!!!

• So how do we teach them both?

Answer:

Let's face it......Adults and Children Learn Differently!

To assist educators in improving emotional literacy (positively improving classroom management), it is important for them to integrate SEL into traditional theories of teaching.

Pedagogy is the teaching of children, or dependent personalities

Andragogy is the facilitation learning for adults, who are self-directed learners.

Social and Emotional Learning:

In addition to applying theories of pedagogy and andragogy, it is important to also consider integrating SEL into your curriculum.

Social and emotional learning; social-emotional learning (SEL) is: The process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
