Fun facts

Cyanobacteria were the first organisms to perform oxygenic photosynthesis. These ancient microorganisms, often referred to as "blue-green algae" (though they are not true algae), began producing oxygen through photosynthesis about 2.5 to 3 billion years ago. This significant event, known as the Great Oxidation Event, dramatically changed Earth's atmosphere and enabled the evolution of aerobic (oxygen-breathing) life forms. Without cyanobacteria, the oxygen-rich environment we depend on today wouldn't exist!
