Cause: Cutting down trees for human activities

Effect: less oxygen to breathe, animal homes destroyed, soil quality decreases

Deforestation

Cause: Clearing land for development of land, housing, buildings

Effect: habitat destruction, loss of farmland, increase chances of flooding

Urbanization

Cause: more food needed for increase in human population

Effect: More pesticides used, soil quality decreases, space is needed

Managing land resources:
Some land has renewable resources and must be managed

Landfills take up valuable space and risk more pollution.

Forests and ecosystems must be preserved.

Reforestation: replanting of trees and plants to replace the ones that have
been removed.

Reclamation: restoring land distributed by mining. This means that mined
areas can be reshaped and covered with soil and then replanted with trees.

Farmers can use organic techniques to maintain soil quality and improve crop
yield.
