​The area where gaseous exchange with the environment takes place is called the respiratory surface.

The respiratory surface in humans called " Alveoli "

Properties of the respiratory surface:-

• It must be moist and permeable so that gases can pass through it.

• It must be thin.

• It should possess a large surface area.

• It should possess a good supply of blood.

• There should be a good ventilation system.
