Affirmative

1. I/We/You/They WEAR jeans or shorts.

Notes : Third Person Spelling Rules


1. For most verbs, add -s to the infinitive.

draw --> draws , cook --> cooks


2. For verbs that end in -s, -sh, -ss, -ch, -x, or -o add -es.

do --> does , watch --> watches


3. For verbs that end in consonant + -y, omit the -y and add -ies.

fly --> flies , study --> studies


4. Irregular verbs don't follow the rules!

have --> has , be --> is

Past Simple: Be

  • Notice the Past Simple form of the verb to be: was and were.

  • For negative sentences we use wasn't or weren't.


  • was a good football player.

  • They weren't sad yesterday.

Past Simple: Affirmative

  • All regular verbs end with -ed.

  • For irregular verbs, see the list (2nd column).

  • Notice all pronouns use the same rule with the verb (regular or irregular).

  • For negative sentences we use the auxiliary verb DID+NOT = DIDN'T

  • The verb doesn't change when we use DIDN'T.

  • She didn't go to the party.

  • We didn't study for the test.
