1
Follow the steps in each stage to complete the practical experiment
Observing Convection 1
We are learning about convection currents in the earth's upper mantle.
These experiments will give you a greater understanding of convetion currents
2
Set up the Bunsen burner, tripod and gauze mat
Half to two-thirds fill the beaker with tap water
Place one-two teaspoons of dried tea leaves into the beaker
Light the Bunsen burner and observe

4
Open Ended
Hypothesis: after reading the method predict what you think will happen during the experiment.
You must show this to me before collecting your materials.
5
Draw
Draw and label the path of the tea leaves
6
Open Ended
Define convection and explain how this is an example of convection
7
Follow the steps in each stage to complete the practical experiment
Observing Convection 2
8
Use scissors to cut off the top of the tea bag.
Empty the contents of the tea bag into a beaker
Unfold and straighten the empty bag. Open it so that it looks like a cylinder.
