We are analysing and critiquing the use of literary techniques in a complex text and exploring how these techniques contribute to the development of themes. We will then apply this understanding to create your own short story or poem.

Read the following
Today you are reading the short texts below with 1-2 different literary devices in mind for each. (Imagery, symbolism & irony, narrative perspective etc!) - Remember we have studied these on our quizlets.

For each text, choose 1-2 literary devices to discover, identify and annotate and you read.

Online Research (Optional): If available, students may use online resources to deepen their understanding of literary techniques

Choose 1 of the texts to research in depth.
For your chosen text, identify the following:
The author and their biographical information (50 words)
The major THEMEs of your chosen text, it must include an explanation of how it is evident in the text(100 words)
The context from the time/place/setting of publication. (What was going on in the world socially/culturally/historically at this point in time?)
Please use your research skills!

You now have a good idea of both the themes & literary devices in at least 1 text. On the next slide, discuss how the literary techniques they identified enhance or contribute to these themes. There are no wrong answers!

Using your analysis from this week, create your own short story or poem. You should:
Select a theme you find compelling.
Incorporate at least two of the literary techniques analysed
Outline, plan, then draft their piece using the document on our Google Classroom
