Punctuation INSIDE quotations.
Each time the speaker changes, start a new paragraph.
If the tag is in FRONT of the spoken words, put a comma before the quotation.
If the tag is AFTER the spoken works, change the period to a comma, add the tag, and then put a period. Do not capitalize the first word of the tag.
"I cannot run fast," said the child.
If the tag is AFTER the spoken words and is a question or an exclamation, put a ? or ! inside the quotes and then add the tag with a period.
"Can you run fast?" the child asked.
If it is a split quote : Look at the two examples of how to do this.
"I really can't," started the child, "run fast in the rain."
"I really can't run fast in the rain," cried the child. "It is too slippery!"
