Reading: Close Read - Text Features
11
According to Surviving Social Media: Shut Down the Haters, "the term troll originally came from the sport of fishing. In fishing, trolling means to draw a baited hook through the water in hopes of catching something. Internet trolls post their opinions online in the hope of upsetting someone or baiting them into an argument."
Beware of Trolls
While there are many good things to come out of social media, like being able to connect with, communicate with, and help others, there can be negative aspects as well.
One thing to be aware of when navigating social media is trolls. Internet trolls are very different from the cute kind of trolls you may have seen in the Trolls movie or even the ugly ones you may have read about in fairy tales

Writing: Sustained Writing Practice
18
Engage
Throughout your ELA course, you will practice your writing by completing sustained writing practices.
These writing practices will look just like the baseline writing you completed at the beginning of the course. The goal of the sustained writing practice is to boost your writing stamina.
The more you practice, the more you will end up being able to write, and the better your writing will be!
19
Set a timer for five minutes and continue writing. Aim to keep writing the entire time.

Writing Prompts: Argumentative
In a previous lesson, you learned about the argumentative writing project for this unit and developed a claim that supports your argument about whether a specific example of technology has caused humanity's downfall or success.
You can start writing in the text answer box on page 5 in edio.
Compose a sustained writing based on one of the following prompts:
1.) Many sci-fi texts and movies present a very dark vision of our future. Do you believe they could be an accurate representation of what the future may be like?
2.) How has technology helped humanity flourish?
