What is the AASL
Background
The American Association of School Libraries and Librarians was established in 1951 as a separate organization from the American
Library association, where previously it was a section of it. It is a professional membership organization focused on the unique issues of school libraries and acts like an advocate for
them.

What is the AASL
Activities
The AASL hosts special communities such as school
librarians of color, town halls for all school librarians to
discuss and look for solutions to problems school
libraries face, and offers a number of resources for
school librarian curriculum. It redeveloped the school
library learning standards in 2017.
