Microsoft Excel is a powerful spreadsheet software that is used to organize, calculate, and display information from Numbers. Anyone can use Microsoft Excel, however accountants are known to use this application often. The Microsoft Excel Icon is an X on a green page.

Every worksheet is made up of thousands of rectangles, which are called cells. A cell is the intersection of a row and a column. In other words, it's where a row and column meet.

Columns are identified by letters (A, B, C), while rows are identified by numbers (1, 2, 3). Each cell has its own name—or cell address—based on its column and row.

A formula is an equation that makes calculations based on the data in your spreadsheet. When writing a formula or using a function it always starts with an = sign. The signs for addition and subtraction are the same. However, the sign for multiplication is an asterisk (*) and the sign for division is a forward slash (/).
