What are aqueous solutions?

An aqueous solution is a mixture in which molecules of another substance are mixed uniformly with water.

Water is the solvent because it dissolves other substances. The substance dissolved by the water is called the solute.

What are concentration and dilution?

The concentration of a solution describes how much solute is dissolved in a given amount of the solvent.

Decreasing the concentration is dilution.

What factors affect rates of dissolution?

Heating the solvent, breaking up the solute, or agitating the solution are ways to increase the number of collisions of solvent and solute molecules. The rate of dissolution increases.
