Let's Review...
There are two basic types of cells: prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic cells do not contain a nucleus.
Eukaryotic cells do contain a nucleus.
There are two types of eukaryotic cells: animal cells and plant cells.

What are the features of animal cells?
Lesson Headings
5
1. What are organelles?
Eukaryotic cells contain specialized structures called organelles.
Organelles perform unique features that help cells carry out their life processes.
Organelles can:
build proteins,
store, clean, and support the cell; and,
capture and release energy.
Organelles follow instructions and create biological molecules, much like a factory.
6
2. What are the features of plant cells?
Plant cells are also eukaryotic cells because they contain a nucleus.
Plant cells contain many similar features that animal cells possess.
However, there are a few exceptions.
Plant cells contain:
chloroplasts;
a cell wall; and,
a central vacuole.

3. What are the features of animal cells?
Animal cells are eukaryotic cells because they contain a nucleus.
Animal cells make up organisms that are not classified as plants.
Animal cells do not contain a cell wall or chloroplasts.
Animal cells sometimes contain vacuoles, but they are much smaller.

Multiple Choice
Which structure is NOT found in an animal cell?
cell wall
cell membrane
plasma membrane
ribosomes
