HAND TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT
Instructions: Complete the table below, by listing down the list of Hand Tools
and Equipment used in Animation
HAND TOOLS
it is a small tool (such
as a Pencil) that
usually does not use
electricity.
EQUIPMENT
is a set of articles (machinery,
electronic devices, mechatronic
devices) used or needed for a
specific purpose or activity.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN
ANIMATION
1.PENCIL - Is used to rough out first key drawings.
HB or B pencil is needed for clean drawings, while colored
pencil is used for roughing out the animation.
2. SHARPENER-Is used
to
sharpen
apencil’s
lead
by
shaving away its wood surface.
3. Brush-Used to get rid of any
carbon dust or eraser residue

IN ANIMATION
4. PEG BAR- used
to fasten animation paper
5. ANIMATION LIGHT
BOX - A fundamental element
of Animation used to reveal
markings though all the layers of
animation paper.
6.CLUTCH PENCIL - A pencil commonly used by
animators for clean-up drawings. It is a mechanical type of
pencil that doesn’t have to be sharpened

7. ERASER -
Is used to
remove pencil markings on a
surface such
as paper. it is
available in soft plastic and
rubber.
type
of
pencil
that
doesn’t have to be sharpened.
9. ANIMATION PAPER – a special type
of paper used to rough out animation drawings.
commonly comes in field sizes (12 field or 15 field), a4,
etc.
8. MASKING TAPE
- Is used to secure animation
papers or for taping down
the peg bar.
7
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
IN ANIMATION
10. ANIMATION DISC – a drawing disc placed on a light
box and used to work out camera movements and to pan walk cycles. it
has two peg bars found in its top and its bottom.
11. CAMERA RIG - Is made up
of metal frame to hold and control the
camera without shaking when being used.
12. CAMCORDER - Is used to record and store
images that will be imported to the computer.

13. DRAWING TABLET - Used to control
mouse pointer as if you are writing or drafting on a
paper.
14. SCANNER-used
to
import
data
such
as
images
to
the
computer. .
10. PERSONAL COMPUTER - used to manipulate digital,
mathematical, logical, and graphical information. Used by
animators to clean-up, sequence, edit, and finalize graphical
projects.

GRAPHITE PENCILS
are good for:
Detailed and precise drawings. So if you're looking
to create architectural artworks, flower drawings,
portraits or sketches for watercolors, these are your
go-to.
CHARCOAL PENCILS are good for:
Shading, smudging and for creating depth.
15
16
CHARCOAL PENCILS
• Charcoal pencils consist of charcoal powder mixed with a gum binder.
This concoction is then compressed into sticks or encased in wood. As
with graphite, the amount of binder used regulates the degree of
hardness of the pencil. The more binder used, the harder the grade of
the pencil.
The hardness of charcoal pencils usually ranges from HB to 6B (from
hardest to softest). A few brands go a step further and make 2H pencils,
but I personally don't use them (I find that they often scratch my
drawing paper rather than leave a smooth mark).

2 TYPES OF ANIMATION
•TRADITIONAL ANIMATION
An animation technique where each frame is drawn by hand. This is called
Classical animation or Cel animation. This type of animation uses specialized
material and equipment for artists and animators.
•COMPUTER-GENERATED ANIMATION
An animation technique that is purely digital and created primarily with
computers. CG animators use high-powered computers to create 3D
animations.

DRAWING is a type of communication that uses graphic illustrations.
There are proper equipment and materials used in technical drawing that allows
one to draw proper projection, scale, and proportion. Drawing basic geometric
shapes has proper steps to keep it in proportion. Drawing GEOMETRIC SHAPES has
proper steps to keep it in proportion. FREEHAND SKETCHING can transfer ideas,
instructions, and information in a clear concise from.
Basic shapes, when learned to draw properly, will enable one to draw more
complex shapes. TECHNICAL DRAWING consists of various simple geometric
shapes arranged in several ways to create other complex shapes. These complex
shapes are combination of simple shapes such as lines, arcs, circle, rectangles, and
triangles.
28
TECHNICAL DRAWINIG
One way to communicate our ideas is through some
form of picture or drawing. Technical Drawing,
sometimes called DRAFTING.
The act and discipline of composing plans that visually
communicate how something functions or is to be
constructed. Using simple lines should give a figure a
life, with movements and personality.
In animation production pipeline, one can be working
as pre-production where drawing skill is must. Drawing
basic shapes would be a great help in designing the
she shape of a character.
