Combining (Word Problems)

Example: In the morning, the trip odometer in Mrs. Candy's car read 47 miles. At the end of the day the trip odometer read 114 miles. How many miles did Mrs. Candy drive that day?

  • We can set up the word problem as an equation: 47 + x = 114

  • Now we solve for x. 114 - 47 = 67

  • We can say Mrs. Candy drove 67 miles!
