Students want a well-managed classroom more than the teachers do because it provides them with security in the classroom that is CONSISTENT. Classroom practices and procedures must be predictable and consistent.

What is Classroom Management?
Classroom management refers to all of the things a teacher does to organize students, space, time, and materials so student learning can take place.

Characteristics of Effective Teachers
Students are working.
Students know that assessments and tests are based on objectives.
The teacher has procedures and routines, starts class immediately, and has an assignment posted.
The teacher has invested time in practicing procedures until they become routines, knows how to bring class to attention, and knows how to praise the deed and encourage the student.

How to Speak to the Class
Stand up when you address the class, and speak in short, clear sentences or phrases.
You do not need to speak loudly. Learn to "speak loudly" with your tone, not your volume.
Learn to use nonverbal language. A nod, a smile, stare, a frown, a raised eyebrow, or a gesture. Body language can speak volumes.
