Why Should We Evaluate our Writing?
Writing is iterative - this means improving it takes
multiple steps.
By self-evaluating, you can find gaps or
weaknesses in your argument.
Peer feedback provides a fresh perspective and
helps you see areas for growth.

Is my claim clear and specific?

Giving Constructive Feedback
●Focus on improvement, not criticism - offer specific, helpful
suggestions.
●Use the Compliment, Suggestion, Question method:
COMPLIMENT: What did they do well?
EXAMPLE: Your claim was very specific and clearly answered the question.
SUGGEST: What can be improved?
EXAMPLE: Your reasoning did not explain how your evidence supports your
answer.
QUESTION: Ask a question to encourage deeper thinking.
EXAMPLE: How does the fact that plants grew 5 cm higher in sunlight prove that
your claim is correct?
